Distance covered: 230 KM
Places visited: Rohtang Pass, Keylong Jispa, Darcha, Zingzing Bar(13382 ft), Baralacha Pass(15912 ft)
After a good sleep, the third day started when Mannu knocked the door and woke us all up. Today we had to travel towards Leh which would take us through few of the world's most beautiful sites.
We had booked Innova From Manali to Leh drop, our driver(Bhim bhai) was ready in front of our door to take us along. After the morning breakfast we left for Jispa at 9 AM.
Before we started our journey, Bhim bhai said it will be almost two days of journey and one of the most tiring journey you ever had in your life, so keep smiling and be exited like you all are now till tomorrow evening. With this note we started and left Manali in 15 minutes and entered in the Valley.
After ~50 KM, Rohtang Pass came and we all were so excited to see our first Pass in the route. I asked Bhim bhai to stop there, and we jumped out of the vehicle to click some photographs. The moment we came out of the Innova, we felt like chilled air is gonna kill us. So we clicked few photos and ran back to the vehicle :-).
We entered Lahaul & Spiti now, one thing I noticed everywhere that is the board by BRO(Border Road Organisation) and their life saving sentences.
In the way down from Rohtang Pass, there is a tunnel which was in progress and being made by Government which is 9KM long. I believe after this we can reach Leh in 1 day :).
The BIG CUP chai started from now, because whenever we stopped for some snacks and drank tea, it was a big full cup of tea(though not so good in taste :( ). Till this time we could not find the reason why big cup, but at the end of the trip we did(which I will tell you later).
Meanwhile we were moving up slowly in the higher altitude and continuing our photography skills with two DSLRs.
After sometime we stopped for our lunch and Me & Shashank had mutton thali, oh dear it was so delicious :D :D. Others had Rajma, which was also delicious.
We reached Jispa at 3 PM, according to our plan this was the destination for today's stay, as everyone said us to stop here to avoid Altitude sickness and any oxygen issues :-) . But you can understand, young blood decision changed the stay plan from Jispa(13000 ft) to Sarchu (16000 ft).
Kaushik had purchased one medicine from Manali which helps to survive in oxygen crisis. He and Praveen had in the morning for safer side, Shashank had it in Jispa before moving ahead. Me and Mannu was like, let's see :P.
Moved towards Sarchu around 3.30 PM, Bhim bhai said we need to reach there by 7 PM anyhow else it would be very cold. So we did not stop in between and took just one stop 20 KMs before Sarchu. And I must say that it was freezing with chilled air, this time I just had one glass of boiling water :P to keep my body warm.
We crossed various passes like Darcha, Zinzing bar, Baralacha pass. I have never thought in my life that these roads will give me one of the best scenic experience.
At 7 PM we reached Sarchu, I vomited just 100 M before where we were going to stop. There was a bridge on the river on the other side it was J&K and this side HP. We crossed the bridge and Bhim bhai said this is Sarchu, we said what? This is Sarchu!!. We were expecting at least a village, but actually it was just a group of 20 tents.
From Sarchu, the HIMANK project started which is under BRO.
Now this night was the scariest night we ever felt in our life, extreme cold, less oxygen and headache. First time ever in my life, I (we) experienced less oxygen and experienced how it feels. That night I slept early around 8 PM after having omelette and my friends had proper dinner. I do not know it was a fear in our mind or really the oxygen was less, but we woke up after every 2 hrs in the night. There was lots of fun as well because we were sharing jokes and all :-).
That's how the third day ended.
Next Day
